A Look Back at Year One of CATAPULT:
A look at the primary events that drive CATAPULT's mission - 2018 lineup:
CATAPULT has been working with the Houston Marathon since 2015 with the goal of helping the Houston Marathon become the most open access marathon and half marathon in the country.
In 2016 CATAPULT, Achilles and the Houston Marathon Foundation launched the first ever Visually Impaired (VI) division for the Houston Marathon. 5 out of the 6 CATAPULT athletes who ran in the first ever VI division qualified for the 2017 Boston Marathon! In 2019 CATAPULT will bring 15 athletes to the marathon start line - 9 visually imparted athletes and their guides and 6 amputee athletes. Check out the 2016 CATAPULT athlete finish line video below:
If you are interested in learning how you can be apart of the 2019 CATAPULT Houston Marathon team or CATAPULT GUIDE team please visit our contact section and send us an email today. Our 2018 Houston Marathon team is currently filled to capacity. We are still seeking sponsors, home-stays and athletes guides for the 2019 race.
Interested in getting into running or guiding but not ready to bite off the marathon or half marathon distance quite yet? No problem! In 2018 CATAPULT assisted 15 visually impaired and one amputee runner to the finish line of the ABB 5k. In 2019 our goal is to double that number!
The event is the warm-up race to the Houston Marathon weekend, but is one of our signature events, as it is the perfect tune up the day before the race for our marathon team, as well as, an amazing opportunity to introduce our new athletes to running and race day conditions. Contact us to learn more about joining this event for 2019 - spots are still open for runners, sponsors and sighted guides.
A signature CATAPULT event to kick off not only the peak of the Texas running season, but also the start of the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show. The amazing folks at ConocoPhillips have included CATAPULT in their plans since 2016. Last year we helped our ABB 5k finishers take on the Rodeo Run 10k less than six weeks after finishing their first 5k.
You too can take the journey from 5k to 10k with the help of CATAPULT and our training series. Contact us today to learn more about the training program and how to participate in the team. Not a runner but want to help with your time or resources? We would love to hear from you too - visit our contact page today.
CATAPULT will represent with the first ever PC athlete team for the 2018 Texas Independence Relay - a 203 mile, 40 leg+ relay race from Gonzalez Texas to the San Jac Monument! Email us today to join the team as an athlete, guide or volunteer! This is sure to be an adventure that you do NOT want to miss with Team CATAPULT!
This is a very special CATAPULT event. We started this event in 2016 to not only benefit our mission, but also benefit a CATAPULT athlete in need. For our inaugural 2016 race we selected CATAPULT athlete Calder Hodge as the beneficiary of this event in its first year. Calder was in need of two prosthetic knees to assist with his mobility and facilitate his athletic dreams. Calder's goal is to be the first double amputee NFL quarter back.
The 2016 event was a HUGE success thanks to our partners, athletes and generous volunteers and donors. Not only did we hit the goal needed to get the knees, but we also raised an additional $6,000 that came back into our project budget! If you are interested in learning more about how to get involved in this event as a sponsor or runner, or if you know someone who would benefit from this event, please contact us today!
An amazing event made possible by the amazing race directors Walt and Lisa Yarrow. In 2016 CATAPULT and Sylvan Beach teamed up to introduce the first triathlon PC wave with a prize purse in Houston. Four athletes participated in the triathlon - a few of them it was their first ever!
In addition to the tri, the du option offers a first taste at multi-sport for some of our newer rookie athletes training with us in our training program. Three athletes, most of which had never run a 5k before training with CATAPULT, took on the Du race and crushed it! We look forward to coming back next year. Full results are here for the PC category.
Thank you to Shadow Creek Triathlon and race director Bryan Kraham for letting CATAPULT be a part of their race plans in 2016 and beyond.
This is a great event that attracts some of the fastest athletes in the state and clearly a great place to spot a CATAPULT relay team or two. From beginners to seasoned CATAPULT veterans, Shadow Creek is a great opportunity to show the speed you have built over the spring training with CATAPULT.
In 2016 our relay team, lead by Rio bound Team USA para-athlete Mark Barr, took 5th place in the male relay division. We are excited to see what we can do next year - contact us to learn more about racing with CATAPULT for this awesome mid summer event.
